KOZHIKODE: Following the Pahalgam attack and the resulting strain in relations with Pakistan, the central government had instructed states to expel Pakistani nationals residing in India. As part of this directive, the police have issued notices to four Pakistani nationals in Kozhikode, asking them to leave the country. The notice demands that they should leave India by April 27th. These individuals have been living in Kerala for many years. Police clarified that further actions will be taken after verifying their documents.
Notices were issued to Puthanpura Valappil Hamsa, who resides in Koyilandy, two individuals from Vadakara, and one from Peruvannamuzhi. These individuals, who had migrated from Pakistan and lived in Kerala for a long time, had applied for Indian citizenship and were awaiting approval.
Hamsa from Koyilandy had travelled to Karachi in 1965 with his elder brother for business purposes and returned to Kerala in 2007. He had applied for Indian citizenship upon his return but has not yet received approval. He has been staying in Kerala on a temporary visa. The Koyilandy police issued him a notice requiring him to leave the country by the 27th of this month.
Similarly, notices were issued to Khamarunnisa and her sister Asma, natives of Vadakara. Their father, a Malayali, was a businessman based in Karachi. They returned to India in 1992. Another individual from Peruvannamoozhi has also been served notice. Those who received the notices are planning to approach the court, seeking permission to continue residing in India.
