Free drinking water scheme of Kerala Water Authority; can apply till January 31

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Consumers belonging to the BPL category can submit applications for the free drinking water benefit provided by the Kerala Water Authority from January 1 to 31. The benefit is granted to those belonging to the BPL category with a water consumption of only 15 kiloliters (15,000 litres) per month.

To avail the benefit, those who are currently receiving the benefit and those who need the benefit for the first time should apply through the online portal http://bplapp.kwa.kerala.gov.in before January 31, 2026. The benefit will be granted to the eligible ones after comparing the E-Abacus details of the consumers with the ration card details on the Civil Supplies website. The application of those who have water charge arrears and those with non-functional meters will be considered only if the arrears are paid, and the faulty meter is replaced before January 31.

From this year, BPL benefits will also be provided to those living in rented houses. Consumers in this category should upload a copy of the rental agreement and the consent letter of the house owner, along with the application on the online portal.
