BUDHANOOR: A woman was arrested for a gold loan fraud case at the cooperative bank in Chengannur. Mannar police arrested Anisha (42) of Puthenveetil, Budhanoor Veluthedam, who was the secretary-in-charge of Budhanoor Service Cooperative Bank.
When Anisha was holding the charge of secretary in 2022, Budhanoor native Rahul went to reclaim the five-and-a-half sovereigns of jewellery that had been pawned at the bank the previous month. Rahul was stunned when Anisha told him that the gold was not in the bank.
Anisha is also being investigated by the police in the case of stealing the three-and-a-half sovereigns of gold pawned by an Ennakkad native woman. Anisha then mortgaged the gold in a private bank with a forged signature.
Anisha was expelled from the bank in 2023 after allegations and protests rose from many people. Many permanent depositors were not returned their money when they demanded it. Anisha is the wife of Budhanoor panchayat member Haridas. The accused was arrested by a police team led by Mannar Police SHO D. Rajish Kumar. The accused, produced in court, was remanded.
