Goods lorry catches fire in Palakkad, traffic disrupted for hours, driver jumps out quickly 

PALAKKAD: A moving lorry caught fire on the state highway. The accident happened at Pathirippala on the Palakkad-Ponnani state highway. As the driver jumped out quickly, he escaped without getting burns. The lorry has been completely gutted in the fire.

The lorry carrying sugar from Coimbatore caught fire at around 11.45 pm on Sunday. The fire was first seen in the cabin. The fire then spread to the sugar sacks. The locals who rushed to the spot tried to douse the flames, but failed. After the incident, traffic was disrupted for two and a half hours. Then two units of fire brigade arrived from Palakkad and Kongad and doused the flames. Short circuit is cited as the cause of the accident.
