KANNUR: The Kerala Catholic Congress stepped forward sharply criticizing CPM State Secretary M V Govindan for criticizing Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany in the arrest of nuns. Catholic Congress Global Committee director Father Philip Kaviyil blamed M V Govindan for his thoughtless statement.
'M V Govindan should not forget that he is in the same post served by Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Let him decide whether to correct his statement. They should think whether a third Pinarayi government should come to power. The chief minister himself had earlier reprimanded the party secretary. Govindan Master should not speak like Govindachamy,' demanded Philip Kaviyil.
M V Govindan had harshly criticized Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany. Govindan, who said Bishop Pamplany is an opportunist, had also said that the latter, who spoke against BJP when the nuns were arrested in Chattisgarh, praised Amit Shah when they were granted bail. The Catholic Congress has come forward with a response to this. The archdiocese condemned Govindan's remarks by comparing them to fascist forces.
Govindan's allegations are baseless. The CPM state secretary is the one who fits the description of an opportunist. He should not use his own character flaws as a yardstick to assess others. His behavior is weakening his own party and the chief minister, pointed Thalassery archdiocese.
