THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Autorickshaw driver brutally beaten in police custody in the capital. It is alleged that Dastakhir, a native of Nalanchira, was assaulted by the Mannanthala police. The incident took place on Thursday morning. Relatives allege that Dastakhir was brutally beaten with a cane at home and at the police station. However, the police denied the news that the autorickshaw driver was assaulted.

The police had received information at around 5 am yesterday that Dastakhir was drunk and harassing his wife and children. When the police reached the spot to investigate, Dastakhir tried to get out of the autorickshaw and run. The Mannanthala police say that they only chased him and caught him. The police came looking for Dastakhir based on his wife's complaint.

Relatives say that they came to know about the beatings all over Dastakhir's body when he was released from the station yesterday morning. The injured Dastakhir has been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. The relatives have decided to file a complaint with the City Police Commissioner regarding the incident.
