Heavy rain expected in next few hours; residents of these districts stay alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A yellow alert has been issued in various districts in the state of Kerala due to heavy rains. A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts today and for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. Isolated heavy rains are predicted. Heavy rains are defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that fishing should not be done along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshdweep coasts today. There is also a possibility of strong winds and bad weather with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and at times 60 kmph along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshdweep coasts.

IMD has said that there is a possibility of isolated moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod districts in the next three hours. There is a possibility of isolated light rain in all other districts.
