Heavy rain, red alert; holiday declared for educational institutions in Kozhikode district tomorrow

KOZHIKODE: A red alert has been issued for educational institutions in Kozhikode district following heavy rains. District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh IAS has announced a holiday for educational institutions including Anganwadis, tuition centres and madrasas. A holiday was issued for educational institutions today also due to the heavy rains. Damage was widespread in the district due to heavy rains. A temple in Vadakara Villiappallywas damaged by wind and rain.

A red alert has been issued for Kozhikode, where heavy rains continue, today. The extremely heavy rains that fell in various parts yesterday morning caused widespread damage, including in the hilly areas. Traffic was disrupted due to a landslide on the Kakkayam Thalayad road. Traffic was disrupted on the 26th mile hilly highway road.

The water level in the Iruvanjippuzha River and the Poonur River rose. A cautionary warning was issued to those living in these areas. An orange alert has also been issued in the Korapuzha area. Landslides have also been predicted in the hilly areas. There was flash flooding in the Thottilpalam river. Wind and rain caused power outages in various places including Naduvannur and Mavoor. Low-lying areas including Mavoor are in danger of flooding. A tree fell on the congress protest tent in the city. A tree had fallen on the protest tent last Friday night as well. The fire force arrived and cut off the branches of the tree that had fallen onto the road.
