SULTAN BATHERY: It was on December 30th that Reshma committed suicide at her home. On July 4th last year, her husband Jinesh P Sukumaran, a native of Pazhupathur, died in Israel. The family, shattered by the death of the couple, now came forward alleging the role of blade mafia.
In her complaint filed with the Bathery police, Reshma’s mother, Shailaja, said it was the threats and malicious interference of blade mafia that forced the couple to end their lives. A copy of the complaint was handed over to the Chief Minister and the Collector.
Jinesh had complained of the threats from the blade mafia, and after his death, Reshma filed a complaint, but the response from officials was lukewarm. Shailaja says that her daughter's life could have been saved if the police had done their duty.
Jinesh, who worked in the medical field, had borrowed Rs 20 lakh from two people from Pazhupathur and Chulliyode at an interest rate of 5 per cent after facing severe financial obligations during the Covid period. He provided four blank cheques and stamp papers as security. He then deposited Rs 14,76,961 back into the bank account of the Chulliyode native as suggested. The remaining amount, along with interest, was repaid in several instalments.
However, a case was filed in Ernakulam court using a cheque leaf of Rs 20 lakhs, claiming that a native of Chulliyode owed money, and a case was filed in Bathery court using another cheque for Rs 20 lakhs. A case was filed, and Jinesh’s house in Koliyadi was attached. Shailaja said that her daughter committed suicide after severe depression over losing the house.
The police said that the investigation into Reshma's death is ongoing. One has been summoned for questioning. The statements of relatives are also being recorded.
