Heavy rain to lash state today; six districts on yellow alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a possibility of heavy rain in various districts of the state today. There is a possibility of heavy rains in North Kerala. A yellow alert has been issued in Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD means that heavy rain will fall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.


The IMD has banned fishing on the Kerala-Karnataka coasts from today to tomorrow. There is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather on the Kerala-Karnataka coasts today with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and at times up to 60 kmph. Strong winds gusting to 40 to 50 kmph and occasionally up to 60 kmph are likely along the Lakshadweep coast till tomorrow.

  • There is a possibility of waterlogging on major roads and blurred visibility for vehicles, leading to traffic congestion.
  • Waterlogging and flash floods are possible in low-lying areas and river banks.
  • Trees uprooting may lead to power outages and accidents.
  • Partial damage to houses and huts is possible.
  • Landslides and mudslides are possible.
  • Rain is likely to adversely affect humans and livestock and damage unprotected structures in the coastal area.
