Heavy rains predicted, four districts on yellow alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rains in various districts of the state today. A yellow alert has been issued for four districts today in view of the heavy rains. Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert.

A yellow alert has been issued in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rains is predicted. Heavy rains are defined as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours.


There is a possibility of a low-pressure area again in the Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation is located over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha-West Bengal coast. It is likely to strengthen into a low-pressure area. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also stated that there is a possibility of isolated rain in Kannur and Kasaragod in the next three hours. In addition, the IMD has banned fishing along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts from today to August 28.
