THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is likely to receive heavy rainfall in the coming hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in three districts- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha. These districts are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall. Rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours is considered heavy rainfall.
A yellow alert has also been issued for tomorrow in Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki and Ernakulam districts. The India Meteorological Department has said that there is a chance of thunderstorms with rain at isolated places today and tomorrow as well. Thunderstorms can be dangerous.
They can cause serious harm to humans and animals, damage power and communication networks, and affect household electrical appliances connected to power lines. Therefore, people should take precautions as soon as thunderclouds begin to form. Lightning may not always be visible, so precautions should not be ignored.
Once the first sign of lightning is noticed, move immediately to a safe building. Staying in open areas increases the risk of lightning strikes.
During strong winds or thunderstorms, keep doors and windows closed. Avoid standing near them. Stay indoors and try not to touch walls or the floor as much as possible.
Fishermen’s advisory
The India Meteorological Department has informed that there are no restrictions on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts today.
