Heavy rains and thunderstorms predicted; three districts on yellow alert, fishermen warned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in various districts of Kerala for the next five days. Yellow alert has also been issued in various districts. Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are on yellow alert tomorrow. Yellow alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Friday and Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Saturday.

Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Meantime, the low pressure over north Tamil Nadu-south Andhra Pradesh coast over the mid-west Bay of Bengal weakened into a cyclonic whirlwind over the southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places from November 13 to 17. There is also a warning that rain with thunder and lightning is possible at isolated places in Kerala from November 13 to 16.
