THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning in the wake of heavy rains in Kerala. Red alert has been issued in eight districts and orange alert in six districts. Red alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.
IMD has warned of the possibility of inundation, flash floods, landslides and mudflow. Therefore, people should be extremely cautious. However, the Meteorological Department has predicted that there is a possibility of less rain tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. People are also advised to avoid non-essential travel and stay in safe areas.
The rains that have been continuing in Kerala for the past few days have caused heavy damage. Many houses have been flooded. Train and road traffic has been disrupted in various places. Houses have collapsed and trees have fallen in many places. Trains are running late for hours. Several people have died. Fishermen have gone missing after being swept away in the sea.
