WAYANAD: Normal life has crippled various parts of Wayanad following heavy rains. As the flow in Punnapuzha has been strong, a high alert has been issued to the local residents. The torrential flow is near the Bailey bridge constructed following the landslide. It has been raining heavily in Wayanad since last evening. 100 mm of rain was recorded in the forest area.
Local residents also suspect that there has been a mudslide in some parts. Revenue officials are presently inspecting Vanarani area and areas adjacent to Mundakkai. Meantime, locals also suspect a landslide in the Mundakkai areas. Inspections related to this are also underway in Mundakkai.
Meantime, Kalpetta MLA T Siddique has responded to the media that there is no serious situation in Wayanad. He also informed that efforts are underway to take the estate workers beyond the Bailey Bridge to safe places. Meanwhile, large-scale protests against the government are also taking place in these parts. Locals are criticizing that the government has done nothing to ensure the safety of those living in the area prone to natural disasters. The locals are protesting by not allowing the village officer to enter the Mundakkai area.
