Heavy rains to intensify in coming hours; alert issued to people in these districts, landslides in Wayanad again

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash Kerala today. Orange alert has been issued in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. IMD defines very heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.


A yellow alert has also been sounded in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram today. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD informed that heavy rain will be received in 24 hours.


The IMD predicted a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 kmph at isolated places in Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod (Orange Alert: Next three hours only) districts in the next three hours. There is widespread rain in Wayanad. There was another landslide in the pass.


Fishermen alerted
The IMD has banned fishing on the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts from today to tomorrow and on the Karnataka coast until the first of the month.
