Hijab row: Two more students to leave Palluruthy St Rita's School in solidarity with eighth-grade student

KOCHI: It is reported that two more students have decided to apply for transfer from St Rita’s public school in Palluruthy. The parents of the students, who are studying in classes 2 and 3, have applied for a transfer certificate (TC) following the hijab controversy.

The children will take admission to Our Lady's Convent School in Thoppumpady. The decision was made in support of the eighth-grade student of the school who was embroiled in a hijab controversy. The mother of the children, who applied for a school transfer, had posted on Facebook that she was hurt by the stance taken by the school management and the PTA president in the hijab controversy.

In the Facebook post, the parent expressed displeasure over the school management, saying that the hijab would instil fear in other students. The parent of two children studying at St. Rita's School in Palluruthy wrote on Facebook that the approach taken by the school principal and the PTA president towards a girl for wearing a hijab was very frightening.

The parent said that the nun, a teacher at Our Lady's Convent School, had called and informed her that the school had an inclusive vision for all faiths and promised that no children would endure any difficulty there.
