ICU physical assault case; CM office directs North Region IG for investigation

h

KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister's office has directed North Region IG K. Sethuraman to investigate the complaint of the survivor in the Medical College ICU torture case. The report should be submitted within 15 days. Survivor's struggle and non-handover of the inquiry report should be investigated. The statement of the complainant should be recorded. It was also suggested that the complainant should be given a reply regarding the action taken.

The survivor said that he was happy that the Chief Minister's office had intervened and that the protest in front of the City Police Commissioner's office would end only after receiving a copy of the police investigation report in the case.

In the incident, Dr K V Preetha filed a complaint with the police alleging that many things she said in the recorded statement were not accurately recorded, scientific evidence was not collected, and the case was being tried to be sabotaged. Medical College ACP K. Sudarshan said that the complaint was baseless in his inquiry report to the Commissioner. The strike started after a copy of this was requested under the Right to Information Act but was not made available.

During the strike, the survivor had taken prior permission to meet the city police commissioner Rajpal Meena but it is alleged that he was not ready to meet her. There was a complaint that they could see only the survivor if they wanted and asked them to take down the banner.

Human Rights Commission seeks report

State Human Rights Commission has directed an investigation into the complaint filed by the Samara Samiti activist Naushad Thekkayil, demanding justice for the survivor. Commission Acting Chairperson K Baijunath suggested that Kozhikode City Police Commissioner should submit the investigation report within 15 days. The case will be considered in the sitting held on May 17 at the Govt Guest House in Kozhikode.
