IMD predicts very heavy rain; various districts warned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteoritical Department (IMD) has predicted very heavy rains in the state. Yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.


The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in isolated places in all districts in the next three hours.

Fishing is not allowed along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts until tomorrow. There is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph and bad weather along the Kerala coasts, adjacent sea areas and the Lakshadweep region.

The IMD has said that strong winds and bad weather are likely along the Karnataka coast with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph till tomorrow.
