THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader K Muraleedharan has said that strong action will be taken against Rahul Mamkootathil. Speaking to the media today, Muraleedharan said that individuals like Rahul have no place in the party and that it is time to use the “brahmastra.”
“He must decide whether he should continue as MLA. That is not for the party to decide. Those who side with him can also leave. I have informed the KPCC president of my stand. The party has ended its ties with Rahul Mamkootathil,” Muraleedharan said.
Meanwhile, the Congress leadership is considering expelling Rahul from the party. As the Thiruvananthapuram District Sessions Court is set to hear Rahul’s bail plea today, leaders are likely to take a final decision soon. Rahul is currently under suspension. Leaders believe that removing him from the party will be politically beneficial. Police are searching for Rahul both inside and outside the state.
Many senior Congress leaders feel that there will no longer be a “soft approach” in Rahul’s case. They believe that the party will face more embarrassment before the public if strict action is not taken against Rahul. Coalition partners are also reportedly unhappy. Steps like asking him to resign as Youth Congress president or suspending him from the parliamentary party will no longer be enough, according to party leadership. KPCC president Sunny Joseph said that the next steps against Rahul will be decided collectively after discussions.
