MANNARKKAD: A wild elephant that came to Karadiyode, Thiruvizhamkunn with a leg injury was sedated under the leadership of the forest department. The forest guards are monitoring the elephant, which has been shot. After sedation, the elephant will be treated and released into the forest.
The elephant was drugged yesterday morning at 10 am. This elephant has been in the inhabited area for the past few days. Locals who saw the elephant near Karadiyode yesterday informed the forest department. When the forest guards came and observed the elephant, they saw the leg injury. It was decided to give treatment after seeing this. Assistant Forest Veterinary Surgeon David Abraham reached the spot and sedated the elephant. The shot elephant entered the rubber plantation near the houses causing panic, but fell asleep later.
Mannarkkad Range Officer N. Zubair and Tiruvizhamkunn Deputy Range Forest Officer K. Sunilkumar led by forest officers from Tiruvizhamkunn Forest Station and Silent Valley Range and members of the Rapid Response Force were present at the spot.
