NEW DELHI: Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict that removed the Vice Chancellors of Kerala Technological University and Digital University. In the appeal, the Governor has sought a stay on the order of the High Court division bench, arguing that appointments of interim Vice Chancellors must comply with UGC regulations.
Earlier, the High Court division bench had directed that the tenure of interim Vice Chancellors should not exceed six months. The bench had also observed that any delay in appointing permanent Vice Chancellors could adversely affect students’ interests and hinder the functioning of the universities. The court had stressed that the appointment of permanent Vice Chancellors should not be delayed.
