KANNUR: Unconfirmed reports said Govindachamy, the notorious criminal, who jumped from the Kannur Jail, has been caught from a house in Kannur City itself. He will soon be taken to Kannur Town Police Station. He was found in the search conducted based on the statement of a local resident of seeing a person in white shirt and black pants. The police got information that he was hiding in the bushes in Talap area where the DCC office is located. The information given by the person who saw him in this area in the morning led to a breakthrough in the investigation. The police dog that was brought in for the search also headed towards the same area.

Govindachamy was caught after a three-hour search. A search was conducted outside Kannur city, Kozhikode and Kasaragod, and outside the state to find him. Govindachamy's escape points to a serious security lapse in the Kannur jail. However, it is a relief to the government and the home department that he was found within hours.

He quickly walked off when some who saw him first asked if he was Govindachamy. Eyewitnesses said Govindachamy had a bag with him. They then informed the police. The police now said that he jumped the jail early this morning at 4.15 am.
