KANNUR: The incident began around 9:30 AM when 40-year-old P.K.P. Shafiq, a native of Pazhanjara, arrived at the home of his friend, N.K. Prashanthan. Prashanthan, a 46-year-old electrician, welcomed Shafiq into his home.
The situation took a violent turn when Shafiq requested a drink of water. After entering the middle room of the house, he suddenly seized a hammer from a table. Without warning, Shafiq reportedly shouted, "I will kill you," before delivering a brutal blow to Prashanthan’s head.
Immediately following the attack, Shafiq fled the residence on foot. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, he ran along the nearby railway tracks. However, his flight ended in tragedy when he was struck by an oncoming train and killed instantly.
N.K. Prashanthan, who sustained severe head trauma in the attack, was rushed to a private hospital in Kannur where he remains under medical care. Local authorities have recovered Shafiq's body and are now investigating the motive behind the sudden outburst, as the transition from a friendly visit to a violent assault remains unexplained.
