THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time in 16 years, Monsoon has knocked on the doors of Kerala earlier than expected. The surprise early arrival had its share of peril with wide damages being reported all across the state.

The roof of the Karyavattom Greenfield Stadium collapsed due to strong winds. Winds gusting to 59 kilometres per hour were reported in Thiruvananthapuram last night.

A tree uprooted in Kottayam, damaging the roof of the Vellani Govt. LP School. Another incident of tree felling damaged a house in Aikkarakonam, Punalur, Kollam.

There was heavy damage in Kodiyathur and Cheruvadi in Kozhikode. Power has been disrupted in Attappadi for the last 24 hours after a tree fell on a 33 KV line due to heavy rain and wind. The strong wind and rain that started yesterday evening caused widespread damage in the hilly areas of Kozhikode.

Meanwhile, two people have gone missing after their boat capsized in Kanjirapuzha Thrissur. The missing are Santosh and Pradeepan, both natives of Padanna. Ajesh and Baiju, who were with them in the boat, swam to safety. The accident occurred around 2 am today. It is reported that the boat capsized due to strong winds and rain. Kodungallur police, Azhikode coastal police and locals are conducting a search.

A red alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod districts due to the continued heavy rains.
