KALPETTA: The Congress has settled the liability of former Wayanad DCC treasurer N M Vijayan, who committed suicide. Vijayan had a debt of Rs 63 lakh in Sultan Bathery Urban Co-operative Bank. The KPCC president had earlier announced in Wayanad that the debt would be settled. Vijayan's daughter-in-law announcing a satyagraha in front of the DCC office after the debt was not settled, had stoked a controversy. The party had earlier given Rs 20 lakh to the family. The liability was also settled by paying Rs 10 lakh to a private financial firm.

Vijayan and his son Jijesh were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition after consuming poison on December 25. Both died on the 27th. Vijayan’s suicide note and related evidence that came to light had stained the image of some leaders. In his suicide note, Vijayan had mentioned the names of I C Balakrishnan, N D Appachan, K K Gopinathan and P V Balachandran.
