THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state curriculum steering committee has approved the draft report as part of the implementation of two important proposals aimed at qualitative changes in the field of public education in the state, said General Education and Employment Minister V Sivankutty. The ideas to be implemented are to reduce the weight of school bags to ensure physical and mental well-being of children, and to create a learning environment without 'back benchers' as part of democratization in classrooms.
SCERT was earlier tasked with studying these proposals in detail. The reports prepared on this basis were discussed in detail by the state curriculum steering committee that met today and approved the draft report.
It has been decided to submit this draft report for public comments to ensure the participation of the entire society in the education process. The report will be made available on the SCERT website. Teachers, parents, students and the public can submit their comments and suggestions in this regard till January 20.
The Department of General Education aims to implement these changes in schools in the coming academic year, taking into account suggestions from the public. The minister said that these changes will help make our schools more child-friendly and democratic.
