KOCHI: Union Minister Suresh Gopi has once again said that Kerala will get an AIIMS. He said he is confident about this and assured that the state will receive the premier medical institution. Suresh Gopi said the central government has asked the state to suggest five districts for setting up AIIMS. At present, discussions are focused on two districts, he said. However, he added that, in his personal opinion, Alappuzha should be given priority, as it is a district that has been neglected in terms of development.
The Union Minister said that if it is not possible to set up AIIMS in Alappuzha, then Thrissur should be considered next. He stated that it would be fair to locate AIIMS in either Alappuzha or Thrissur.
Suresh Gopi also said that the proposal to establish AIIMS in Kerala is making some people uneasy, but reiterated that the state is certain to receive this major medical institution, regardless of where it is located.
