WAYANAD: One of the Kumki elephants started from Wayanad to catch the wild elephant called Arikompan, which is terrorizing Idukki Chinnakanal, Santhanpara, and Pooppara areas. Vikram, a Kumki elephant, is being brought to Idukki. Officials led by Dr. Arun Zakaria and three Kumki elephants named Konni Surendran, Kunju and Suryan will join Vikram who is from Wayanad.

A 30-member team, including four Kumki elephants and 26 officers, is part of the mission to capture Arikomban. Kungi elephants are brought from Wayanad with the aim of capturing Arikomban by any means. Vikram will reach Idukki in a specially prepared lorry. The plan is to find and tranquilize Arikomban in the forest with the help of Kumki elephants. If caught, Arikompan may be transferred to the Kodanad elephant sanctuary.

The forest department has sped up the action after the Arikomban, who comes into the populated areas of Idukki, started disturbing the peace regularly. A few days ago, there was an attack by Arikomban in Idukki Pooppara Thalakulam, when a lorry carrying groceries was crushed by him on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi highway. He also ate the rice and sugar in the vehicle.
