KOZHIKODE: A complaint reached the Chief Minister against actress Krishnaprabha's remarks on mental health issues. Dhananjay, a native of Kaipamangalam, Thrissur, has filed a complaint to the Chief Minister alleging that the actress trivialised depression. A controversy arose from the remarks made by the actress in an interview given to a YouTube channel.
In a candid talk with a YouTube channel, Krishaprabha scoffed that the current depression often seen among youngsters was nothing but ‘madness’ like what the older generation addressed it.
The complaint states that this unscientific statement has the potential to further isolate people with mental health problems and discourage them from seeking treatment. The complainant demanded that the issue be viewed with utmost seriousness as the remark came from a person with great influence in the public.
The complaint also demands that the government intervene to immediately remove the video part containing the controversial remarks from YouTube, and actress Krishnaprabha unconditionally apologise to the public. While the government attaches great importance to mental health care, such statements undermine all awareness efforts.
The complaint also states that depression is not something to be trifled with, but a medical condition requiring proper treatment. Dhananjay added that he expects urgent intervention from the Chief Minister's office in the matter.
