KALPETTA: The Human Rights Commission has filed a suo motto case against Kerala Gramin Bank for deducting loan repayments from Rs 10,000 emergency aid granted by the government to Mundakkai and Chooralmala landslide victims.

K Baijunath, judicial member of the commission, asked the district collector and Kerala Gramin Bank Chooralmala branch manager to look into the matter and submit a detailed report within a week. The case will be heard in the next sitting at Sultan Bathery.

The complaint is that monthly repayments were collected from the debtors of the Chooralmala branch of the bank. 10 people living in relief camps have come forward against the bank. The loan amount was recovered after the government financial assistance reached the bank. The Commission registered the case based on the newspaper report.
