THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vigilant locals of Vithura helped avert a major crime on Friday after they thwarted the plans of two Andhra natives to kidnap a seven-month-old baby girl. The incident took place at 8:45 am at Thottumukku in Vithura.

Eshwarappa, a native of Andhra, tried to kidnap Thottumukku resident Shaan’s daughter. Shaan, his wife and two children were at home at the time of the incident. Shaan's wife was feeding the eldest child while the toddler was lying in the hall unattended. By this time, Eshwarappa, who had reached the sitout, crawled on his knees, went near the child and pulled her by the leg. Fortunately, during this time, Shaan walked to the front of the house and was befuddled seeing the stranger trying to take away his daughter. Eshwarappa then caught in his act begged for forgiveness with Shaan.

Shaan then called out the locals who all came to his help. Eshwarappa was caught and then was handed over to the Vithura police. The locals then caught Revanna, Eshwarappa’s friend from nearby premises. Shaan and his wife complained that they both tried to kidnap the baby. The police are interrogating both Eshwarappa and Revanna.
