KOTTAYAM: With only three months left for the end of the financial year, not even a third of the project implementation of local bodies has been completed. 31.16% of the project amount has been spent across the state so far. The total project amount is Rs 8452.48 crore. Only Rs 2633.78 crore has been spent. 5818.70 crore needs to be spent in the remaining three months! Local bodies will lose a huge amount if the current situation continues. The gram panchayats have been allocated between Rs 5 crore and Rs 12 crore this year.
Officials say the reason is the preparations for local body elections and the delay in approval of new projects due to the code of conduct. The fact that the bills were not passed on time also caused the reluctance of the contractors. The local body presidents also did not show caution as they were busy with election activities.
