THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr Bindu Sundar, a gynaecologist at the Nedumangad District Hospital, has been transferred in connection with the death of a newborn soon after the baby was taken out through a C-section delivery. The action was taken after the baby's relatives staged protests in the hospital. There have been allegations of medical negligence against the same doctor before. The health department did not take any other action except announcing an investigation at that time.
The baby of Renjana of Palode died during caesarean the other day. Following protests by the relatives, the director of the health department had directed the doctor to go on forced leave. The director had assured them that the doctor would not be taken back to the hospital. However, the relatives continued protests as the action was not found to be satisfactory. The relatives had taken a stand that they would not accept the baby's body without suspending the doctor. It was in this context the health department decided to transfer her.
Ranjana was admitted to the hospital on Monday. When she came for routine check-up, she was advised to be admitted for delivery. She was admitted to the labour room at 4 am. The baby was taken out through a C-section at 2 pm, but later informed the family the death of the newborn. The relatives said the delay in performing the surgery is the reason for the baby's death. They also alleged that Dr Bindu left the hospital without giving an explanation for the baby's death.
