P S Latheef, a representative of the mahal committee termed the incident that happened in the college as unpleasant. Islam has prescribed specific methods for prayer and rituals. He said that it should be remembered that even if there is even a small misrepresentation from those associated with the community, wrongdoers will try to take advantage of it.
The Syro Malabar Church and Christian organizations came forward against the students' detention of the principal for not allowing them to pray in the rest room of Nirmala College in Muvattupuzha.
Principal Father Justin K Kuriakose said the demand of a section of students to allow a prayer room cannot be accepted. While talking to a media, he said that there has never been such a demand in the 72-year history of the college.
The aim is to spread false propaganda and create religious rivalry. Such actions should be avoided. The college will continue with the stand it has taken for so long. This is not the time to think about action against protesting students. He said that they are students of Nirmala College and will make them understand their mistakes.
