Man on ventilator dies after ICU fire at Medical College Hospital

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 53-year-old man, who was on ventilator support during the fire incident in the ICU of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, died on Wednesday. The deceased is G Krishnankutty, a native of Elamadu Ambalamukku in Ayoor.

Krishnankutty, who ran a gold work establishment near the Ayoor KSRTC stand, was injured in a road accident on the 14th. He was hit by an autorickshaw while standing by the roadside on his way home for lunch.

He was first taken to a nearby private hospital, but due to internal bleeding and serious head injuries, he was later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Although surgery was completed by Monday, he remained on ventilator support due to internal bleeding and high blood pressure.

During the fire in the ICU, patients were urgently shifted. It is reported that, in the chaos, proper attention could not be given to the medical support being provided to Krishnankutty, who was in critical condition. His death was confirmed around noon.

After the post-mortem, the body was brought home on Wednesday afternoon and the funeral was held. He is survived by his wife Minimol and children Nandana Krishnan and Vandana Krishnan.
