AMBALAPUZHA: A huge blue whale washed up on the Punthala beach in Purakkad. The whale, about 25 meters long, washed up on the sea wall on the coast this afternoon. The dead whale had been floating in the Purakkad outer sea since morning. It later washed up on the Punthala beach in the south of Purakkad in the afternoon. There is an profuse stench in the area.

Purakkad Panchayat President A.S. Sudarshanan contacted the District Collector and decided to take the whale to the Thottappally port for a postmortem and then bury it. Based on this, the Sea Rescue Unit of the Thottappally Coastal Police Station and fishermen tried to remove the whale by tying a rope and pulling it into a boat, but failed. With this, the move is to bring a boat from Kollam Azheekal and take the whale to the Thottappally port.
