PALAKKAD: Reports said the condition of the 38-year-old woman confirmed of Nipah, remains critical. The woman of Palakkad who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna, was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital last night. The woman's 12-year-old son has been admitted to the Mannarkkad Taluk Hospital due to fever. Her relative, a 10-year-old child was earlier admitted to the Manjeri Medical College Hospital following fever. According to the report published by the health department, 110 people are on the contact list. Of these, 65 are health workers.
The health department's survey to find the source of the Nipah virus infection is continuing soon after the woman was infected. As part of this, an expert team from Manjeri Medical College inspected the woman's house and surroundings. The health department is conducting a survey in four wards declared as containment zones in Thachanattukara. They are also examining whether anyone has had symptoms of Nipah disease in the past two months. It is reported that the survey, started by a 75-member team yesterday, will be completed today.
Minister Veena George had informed that there is a total of 425 people on the Nipah contact list in the state. 228 people are in Malappuram, 110 in Palakkad and 87 in Kozhikode. 12 are under treatment in Malappuram. Five are undergoing treatment in ICU. One on the contact list has tested negative. One person in Palakkad is under treatment in isolation. 87 people on the contact list in Kozhikode are health workers.
