KOLLAM: The police have named three people as accused in connection with the tragic electrocution death of Mithun, a Class 8 student of Thevalakkara Boys Higher Secondary School. Those named accused are school manager Thulasidharan Pillai, headmistress S. Suja, and a KSEB assistant engineer. The case, which was earlier registered as an unnatural death, has now been changed to a case of involuntary manslaughter. The investigation team has submitted the updated report to the Sasthamkotta Magistrate Court.

On Tuesday, the police recorded statements from teachers, school management committee members, and KSEB officials. In the coming days, they will also question officials from the panchayat engineering department and Mithun's family members. After reviewing these statements, there is a possibility that former managers, more KSEB officials, and officials from the panchayat engineering department may also be named as accused. The police have also sought legal advice on whether charges of culpable homicide can be applied. Meanwhile, KSEB has launched its own internal investigation.

Thevalakkara School to reopen today
The Thevalakkara Boys and Girls Higher Secondary Schools, which were closed after the incident, will reopen today. Counselling sessions, as recommended by the Child Rights Commission, will be held for students at both schools. Mithun died after receiving an electric shock at the school around 9:15 AM last Thursday.
