Monsoon: Kerala with 53 percent excess rainfall so far; more rainfall in these districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the monsoon completes one month in Kerala, the state has received 53% more rainfall so far, according to the Meteorological Department. As usual, the northern districts like Kasaragod, Kannur and Kozhikode received more rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, Kannur (1432 mm) district received the most rainfall. According to the Irrigation Department, Kasaragod (1647 mm) district recorded the most rainfall.

Kerala received more rainfall than average on 17 days in a month. The monsoon arrived in Kerala on May 24. From then to 31, the state received 440 mm of rain. (593 mm, Irrigation Department). Along with this, strong winds (50-70 km/ hr) were experienced during this period. The monsoon, which was weak for the next 10 days, strengthened again after the 11th. By 15/16, very heavy rain was recorded in the northern districts, especially in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. The Meteorological Department said that the rain will be heavy in central and south Kerala from tomorrow to the 28th and then it is likely to weaken.
