IDUKKI: The funeral of a youngster, killed in a road accident, is being delayed, considering his mother’s pending arrival from abroad. Shannet (18) died in an accident involving a bike and a jeep in Anakkara last Tuesday.
Jinu, Shannet’s mother, working in Kuwait, has not been able to return home yet. This is delaying the funeral.
As per reports, Jinu was in the custody of Kuwaiti police for a month and a half after being cheated by the agency. MPs from Kerala intervened in the matter, but to no avail. Jinu’s husband told the media that an agency in Pathanamthitta took his wife to Kuwait two and a half months ago.
“She was taken abroad with the promise of a caretaker job for a toddler. The salary was supposed to be Rs 40,000. It was only after reaching Kuwait that she learned more about her work. She had to look after an entire family and was paid a meagre Rs 27,000.
She informed the agency about the matter, and they took her to another location. In the meantime, she also informed the Malayali association in Kuwait about the matter and, with their help, reached the Indian embassy. Jinu was supposed to return home last Monday after completing the procedures. However, she was incarcerated, citing rising COVID-19 cases and war. There are a total of 35 Malayali women in that jail. All were cheated by agencies,' said Jinu’s husband.
