NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to RSS activists Abhimanyu, Atul and Sanand in the murder case of SDPI leader KS Shan in Alappuzha. The verdict of a bench comprising Justices Suryakant and Dipankar Dutta rejected the arguments of the state government opposing the bail application. The detailed arguments in the case will be heard on August 8.
The bail is on the condition that the accused should not reside in Alappuzha district. The accused should provide a new address to the police station within a week and report to the police station of their new residence once a week. They should appear in court for the trial. The petitioners have been directed not to contact or influence witnesses and not to destroy prosecution evidence. The sessions court had earlier granted bail to nine accused, who are RSS members, in the case. The Supreme Court's verdict is on an appeal filed challenging the cancellation of bail by the High Court on the grounds of their direct involvement in the crime. Shan was killed on December 18, 2021, in Mannanchery, Alappuzha. In response, Ranjith Sreenivasan, a BJP leader in Alappuzha, was killed the next morning.
