THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A couple had a miraculous escape when the car in which they were travelling caught fire at Jagathy in the capital city. The couple’s old Maruti car caught fire near the Jagathy bridge. A native of Ottasekharamangalam and retired police officer Radhakrishnan Nair and his wife were in the car. A major tragedy was averted as the couple jumped from the car seeing smoke. The vehicle then burst into flames.

Seeing smoke from both sides of the car, the couple stopped the vehicle and got out. After being informed by the locals, the fire force reached the spot and brought the fire under control. However, by then the car burst into flames.

The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed. A fault in the electrical wiring of the vehicle is suspected to be the cause of fire which is being investigated.
