KOZHIKODE: Heavy rains triggered an unusual incident in Balussery, Kozhikode, where a natural spring surfaced inside the Government Ayurveda Hospital near Thalayad, leading to the evacuation of 18 patients. Acting on the directive of the District Medical Officer (DMO), authorities relocated the patients as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.
The spring was discovered on the hospital's ground floor as intense rainfall continued to batter Balussery and the surrounding regions. Hospital officials later confirmed that the situation had stabilised following a reduction in water flow, and no further danger was reported.
In a related development, vehicular movement on the Thalayad–Kakkayam route was suspended after a landslide disrupted traffic. With the threat of additional landslides persisting, travel and tourism have been temporarily restricted along the route.
Meanwhile, in Kannur district, where a red alert has been issued due to ongoing heavy downpours, the District Collector declared a holiday on Friday, May 30, for all educational institutions, including Anganwadis, madrasas, tuition centres, and special classes.
