PALAKKAD: The final verdict in the Pothundi Sajitha murder case will be pronounced today. The Palakkad Fourth Additional District Court will pronounce the verdict. It was after getting out on bail in the Sajitha murder case that convict Chenthamara murdered Sajitha's husband Sudhakaran (56) and mother Lakshmi (78). The verdict comes after six years of trial in the Sajitha murder case.
On August 31, 2019, Pothundi native Sajitha was hacked to death by neighbour Chenthamarakshan inside her house. The accused kept blind faith in superstitions, and it is doubtful that an astrologer suggested that it was a woman with long hair behind Chenthamara’s wife, distancing away from him. Chenthamara believed it was his neighbour behind his family's life collapsing. It is reported that the trial of the Nenmara double murder case will begin with the verdict.
On the day of the murder, her children were at school, and her husband, a lorry driver, Sudhakaran, was in Tamil Nadu. While Sajitha was cooking food in the kitchen, Chenthamara entered the house through the back door with a sword and hacked her to death. After confirming death, he left the blood-stained sword at home and went into hiding in the Nelliyampathy hills. After two days of fighting hunger and later giving up, the accused came out of hiding and was arrested by the police.
As the sentencing is scheduled to take place today, the children of the murdered Sajitha and Sudhakaran demanded that Chenthamara be given the maximum punishment. Athulya and Akhila, children of the murdered Sajitha-Sudhakaran couple, said that their lives will be in danger if Chenthamara is released from prison.
Meanwhile, the main witness in the Sajitha murder case left town in fear of retribution from Chenthamara. Pushpa, a native of Pothundi, who was a crucial witness in the case, has moved to Tamil Nadu. Pushpa's statement was crucial in the investigation of the case. Pushpa saw Chenthamara coming from Sajitha's house after the murder. Chenthamara had threatened to kill Pushpa several times in retaliation.
