NILAMBUR: Amidst excitement over the tight contest, Nilambur recorded 70.76 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm on Thursday. The polling that took off at 7 am today ended at six in the evening. Many braved heavy rains to reach the polling booths en masse, helping the percentage not to plummet further. As per officials, the voting was generally peaceful with no untoward incidents reported. A good turnout was also recorded in the tribal areas of Nilambur.
Left candidate M Swaraj exuded confidence after casting his vote in the booth at Mankuth School.
UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath responded that he expects a huge majority in the constituency. Shoukath said the race is between the UDF and the LDF. Aryadan Shoukath visited the nearby booths in the morning.
There are a total of 2,32,384 voters in Nilambur. Male voters are 1,13,613. Female voters are 1,18,760, and transgender voters are eight. Non-resident voters are 373, and service voters are 324. 1200 police personnel and central forces were deployed at the booths for security. The result will be announced on June 23rd.
