KOLLAM: The body of a student, who jumped into the Kallada river from the Enathu bridge, was recovered on Saturday. Muhammad Asif (14), a class nine student, died in the incident. Muhammad jumped into the river at around 9.40 am on Wednesday. He was a student of Kulakkada Government HSS.

Asif had gone to the tuition centre in Kulakkada on Wednesday morning but failed to appear at school. He had informed his friends about going back home. After climbing onto the bridge and moving further to the bridge, Asif, leaving his bag on the footpath, jumped down to the water, said the locals.

The people who immediately came to look down saw the student drowning. The rescue operations were nearly impossible due to heavy rain. The child's shoes were found near the bridge. Despite a thorough search from the Puthur police, fire department and scuba team, the body could not be recovered for the past two days.

Asif is the son of Anas and Shamila, natives of Kanjiramvila. Alfia and Fathima are his sisters.
