MANNARKKAD: Kerala has reported a fresh case of Nipah virus infection. A 40-year-old woman from Nattukal in Mannarkkad, Palakkad district, has tested positive in preliminary screening for the virus. Her samples have been sent to the Virology Institute in Pune for detailed confirmation. The woman is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna, and her condition is reported to be critical.
Health officials have yet to determine the source of the infection. The health department has begun collecting details of those who came into contact with the patient, and contact tracing and monitoring are now underway.
