ALAPPUZHA: Son secretly buried his mother's body inside his house. The incident happened in Thuravoor, Alappuzha. The body of Radha, a native of Manakodam, was buried inside the house by her son Girish (49). Following a complaint from locals, the Kuthiathodu police registered a case and took Girish into custody, but he was released as no abnormality was found in the death.
Girish's mother Radha (75), died on Tuesday morning. They were the only ones living in the house. Girish told the police that his mother was lying motionless when he came with food. The police found that Girish had dug a hole in the kitchen area of the house and buried Radha's body without informing relatives or locals about the death. Girish himself later revealed this to the locals. Girish, who was an alcoholic, used to fight with his mother from time to time. With this, the locals became suspicious of Girish's words and informed the police.
Girish was drunk when the police arrived at the scene. Girish told the police that Radha's death was natural and that he had not killed her. The police clarified that no abnormality was found in the interrogation and initial investigation conducted after Girish's drunkenness had subsided. Nothing abnormal was found in the postmortem conducted at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital after the body was exhumed. The body was cremated in the house premises under the leadership of ward member Viji.
Girish explains that he buried the body inside the house without informing anyone because he did not have the money to perform the funeral rites. He also points out that he could not bury the body outside due to the large amount of water around the house. Although Girish is married, he was living apart from his wife.
