Notice to produce death certificate: Gopinathan arrives alive; Panchayat apologises

PATHANAMTHITTA: Panchayat asks a living person to produce his death certificate. The notice was sent from Pramadom Panchayat in Pathanamthitta. The recipient of the notice was Gopinathan Nair, a native of Elakolloor. The panchayat sent the notice asking to produce Gopinathan's death certificate to cancel his social security pension. The order was to produce the death certificate within three days. Gopinathan's son brought his 64-year-old father along with his Aadhaar card to the panchayat today to update the authorities that he was alive.

The Panchayat Secretary explained that the notice was sent based on the list received from the Joint Director's office. The confusion was caused by the negligence of the employee who prepared the documents related to the social security pension. The employees who realised the mistake apologised to Gopinathan Nair. The issue was resolved amicably after the apology. No action will be taken against the employee. Gopinathan said that the officials have assured that there are no other obstacles in getting the pension.
